I was recently asked by Redfin, the online real estate listing company and real estate brokerage, to contribute to an article about hidden gems in Las Vegas, Nevada. I enthusiastically agreed and immediately started thinking about what I could suggest. I knew that I wanted to pick something that I genuinely love and enjoy, but is simultaneously lesser known. Read on to see what I consider two hidden gems in the valley!
Viva Las Arepas
If you are looking for a quick meal near but off the Strip, check out Viva Las Arepas for crave-worthy and authentic Venezuelan dishes. My favorite is the Arepa Reina Pepiada, which is a savory corn cake sandwich filled with a mix of chicken, avocado, mayo and cilantro. Oh my gosh, it's mouthwatering goodness and also affordable! My family and I go to this restaurant pretty much whenever we're in the downtown area near the Strip. It's such a good find!
Doctor Harry B. Johnson Rose Garden
Living in the desert, it's sometimes hard to believe that such a pretty, green park like the Rose Garden exists! This little gem in Southern Highlands features a well-manicured, European-style garden filled with beautiful, seasonal roses in a bevy of colors. This family-friendly park also has a shaded playground, small splash pad and covered tables. Parking is limited, but it's such a lovely backdrop for anything from quiet reflection to a photoshoot to a picnic! It's a great little spot for dog walks and young children, too, since both the playground and the park itself are gated.
As a family photographer in Las Vegas and Henderson, I have shot photoshoots here and I always suggest this park whenever a client is interested in a location with greenery! It works well for anything from senior photography to family photography, as you can see below.
